MEFA looked the best to me for sure.  They give you the incentives as you earn them, and you don't lose them for late payments after they kick in.

ah okay. yeah, i'm pretty set on MEFA for stafford, still thinking about gradplus though.

and my medical records are going to be late (a few days anyways..).. :/ oh well.. hopefully they'll still let me register! :P

uh..wait..what are Grad PLUS loans for? What component of the financial aid package (e.g. "Unsubsidized HLS loan") does it correspond to, or is it an additional loan you take out if you want more money than what HLS budgeted for you?

hmm.. well it's a substitute for private loans really, so whatever you need beyond federal stafford/perkins loans can be covered by gradplus as necessary, as i understand it. having no credit i think it's probably my best option, and the fixed interest rate is a bit more reassuring even if it is higher atm.

You can use it to substitute for the student and/or parent contribution.

Oh ok, so if I'm going to pay those contributions using proceeds from my money laundering scam ring, and I just need the Stafford loans + HLS loans, I don't need to fill out the GradPLUS forms at all?

not sure about that.  I knew from the start that I wouldn't be a public interest career person.  not sure about government.  I don't know enough to venture predictions about correct paths for ending up in different fields.  but just in the shortsighted goal of gearing up for 2L OCI, I'm very happy with going into a firm job.

Hello there absy. I have a few questions about HLS. If you could e-mail me, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and have a nice day!

WHAT THE FRACK

I keep getting this error message from that asa/MEFA form!!!

"Application or MPN Level Valid References Flag not Y"

I suppose it means my references aren't valid but I can't figure out why the hell not! Maybe the system doesn't like the fact that my dad lives abroad? But if not, why does it give me "Foreign country" as a legitimate option to select for "state"?

GRRRR

anyone else get this error msg?

I've talked to them.  It's no big deal at all.  You don't register til you get there anyway.

hey as much as the name "need access" sends chills down my spine, these stafford loans from Access Group sound pretty good:
    * 0% origination fee
    *  Receive an immediate 0.8% interest rate reduction if you make your first payment on time.
    * This 0.8% reduction will continue as long as your payments are received on time.
    * We offer a one-time “repair” feature for borrowers who miss a payment. Make the next 12 consecutive payments on time, and the 0.8% reduction will be reinstated.
    * Reduce your rate an additional 0.25% by making auto-debit payments from your bank account.
    * Discounts are temporarily suspended while you are in periods of authorized deferment or forbearance, but resume after you make the first required on-time/auto-debit payment.

Yeah.  I drove in on Friday to drop off my forms (after getting a Tetanus shot to appease those bastards) and I realized that even if I was late with them, they can't really punish anyone, as we don't have any choices to make while registering.  I mean, there are no electives and it's not like we choose our section or have much left to decide.
