Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, actually. I used to laugh about HP fans, but not anymore. :)

And I always read my New Yorker magazine.

John Updike, Rabbit, Run.  I think I'll finish that tonight and start Portnoy's Complaint.

Anyone else read "The Historian"?  I don't normally like thriller/fantasy books, but I enjoyed that one.  I felt like I actually learned something when I was done with it.

The Subterraneans, Kerouac

How is it?  Big Sur was the last straw for Kerouac and me; I'll always cherish the memories, though.

I like it so far, although I feel like I'm missing a lot. I've never read anything by him, which just seems wrong.

Interesting first choice.  Why not On the Road?

I'm waiting for my copy of Cadillac Desert to come in the mail, and I'm currently sludging through Nussbaum's Upheavals of Thought, Arundhati Roy's little book on empire, and reading some Dorothy Parker and John Cheever short stories.

I feel like I should be reading something more....important. Ya know, in preparation of law school and all that.

I liked American Pastoral a lot, and I don't like a lot of Roth's other stuff.

I am about to start reading The Sherwood Scandal. My penultimate houseguest picked it up for me at some seedy used-book shop in the Tenderloin, so I thought I'd give it a try. I think it promises to be sordid....

Damned superior houseguest!

Supreme Conflict by Jan Crawford Greenburg. Really great boook about the recent shaping of the Supreme Court based in large part on extensive interviews with former clerks, politicians, etc.

Ugh, I can't stand Jack Kerouac.
