A new opinion poll indicates most Americans now say the United States should have stayed out of Iraq.
In the New York Times - CBS News poll released Friday, 51% of those polled said the United States should not have gone to war in Iraq. And the poll reported 62% of respondents said the war was not worth the cost.
Opinion of President Bush's handling of Iraq appeared to change little since the transfer of sovereignty last month, with 37% of people approving and 58% disapproving of his performance.
The survey also found people were nearly split on which political party they trusted to make the right decisions about the Iraq war, with 45% of people backing Democrats and 41% supporting Republicans.
