Clinton Sowed Seeds of War!
« on: December 14, 2005, 11:23:09 AM »
"We have to defend our future from these predators of the 21st century," he argued. "They will be all the more lethal if we allow them to build arsenals of nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons and the missiles to deliver them. We simply cannot allow that to happen. There is no more clear example of this threat than Saddam Hussein."

What more needs to be said?

where did this rhetoric come from, bill?

What if Saddam Hussein

fails to comply, and we fail to act, or we take some ambiguous third route which gives him yet more opportunities to develop his program of weapons of mass destruction and continue to press for the release of the sanctions and continue to ignore the solemn commitments that he made? Well, he will conclude that the international community has lost its will. He will then conclude that he can go right on and do more to rebuild an arsenal of devastating destruction.

being in touch with history...clinton knew that "strongman regime" governments has had a hold on iraq for some time.

was clinton also hinting that the heirs of hussein might be the next regime with which the world would have to deal?

Okay, I'll take the bait. What does the fact that Clinton wanted to go to war in Iraq have to do with whether or not the war was and is a terrible mistake grounded in false intelligence that has only made Americans more vulnerable to terrorism by creating a huge power vaccum in the middle east while at the same time generating MORE hatred for us than already existed in that region and around most of the rest of the world?

Politics are politics. If Clinton had pursued a war in Iraq I'm sure we'd see just as many democrats defending it as we do republicans today, and just as many republicans arguing against it. I fail to see how this 'fact' is supposed to affect any genuine discourse about the war.

Agreed, Clinton was a warmonger, Bush is a warmonger, and both men are completely immoral.

Clinton bombed Iraq to avoid impeachment, and as far as impachment goes, it worked.  (See Operation Desert Fox).  As a result, however, we lost our best intelligence about Iraq's WMD program, namely, UNSCOM.  Now Bush is following Clinton's lead, killing people in order to achieve a political victory or avoid a political defeat, all the while leaving America more vulnerable militarily and completely debased morally.
