I'm definitely the definition of a non-gunner.  I keep expecting to get a call back from some of the schools I've gotten into saying "Um... we just realized you've been faking being smart for the past few years.  Sorry, we're un-admitting you"

I'll do the sacrifice-answer, as well... and if I know the answer to something that nobody else seems to, I'll volunteer it. I'm a lot braver now than I was in college, though. Louder, too.

Oh yeah. It definitely does. Hell, for me, I didn't make it to teaching at PR when I was 23 because... I wasn't loud enough.

I am now, though. Although I suspect that 5 years of talking to random people on the phone for work has helped a lot, too.

If I were a prof, I'd go out of my way to make someone like Vapid look like a fool in front of her classmates.  Not that I wouldn't want participation, but the Hermione Granger type would be unbearable.

Umm, I think it's someone who's always trying to answer in class, you know the suck-up, you know the person who's read three or four classes ahead... basically the guy/girl you didn't like b/c they felt a constant need to prove how much smarter they are than everyone else. I could be wrong though.

so, basically, it is an insufferable know it all kind of guy.
