Submitting more apps?
« on: December 02, 2005, 03:40:47 PM »
Am I overthinking this?  I've filed apps for the following:
Michigan, Vandy, W&M, Wisconsin, Columbia (all fee waivers)
Virginia, Fordham, Univ. of Richmond (shelled out the cash)

Any thoughts on if I should add more safties? Would a last minute app to NYU and Chicago be just plain silly? Is Northwestern even worth it if I don't want to do the interview?

Is anyone else thinking of adding applicaitons?

I thought I'd  feel complete once these 8 were in, but alas!

Oh- 173 LSAT, 2.97 GPA, 5 yrs legal WE, great recs and PS and GPA addendum

if you feel like you have a good chance at the reaches (nyu, chicago) and you want to spend the time and money...go for it.

on the other hand, if you are worried about getting in to your safeties then adding a school that you are really confident you can get into makes sense.

northwestern might be a good add since they value WE.

imho, a sub-3 gpa is a pretty big obstacle to overcome (mine is sub-3 also, so no offense meant, besides your lsat is better than mine.)

then again, i applied everywhere so my advice may not be worth listening to! kind of like putting money down on every square of the roulette board. one has GOT to hit, right?

Agreed.  And thanks viridianx for the shout out to my new baby boy!

The sub-3 GPA does bite big.  And I was soooo close to pulling it up to a 3 (spent two years of overloading credits to even get it that close - my first bit of college was soooo bad.)

anyway, can't change the facts.

I guess what I still don't know is - is it too late in the application season already?  I won't be able to afford more aplications until the next paycheck - December 15 ... Everyone else seemed to get their apps in from October! I just couldn't get things together while I was on maternity leave.

I think any app I make could swing both ways. I could get rejected from a T2 and accepted into a T14, just depends on what the school's class is shaping up to be.

Anyway - good luck to everyone, and thanks for the advice!

i don't think it is too late in the season. if you can get it in by jan 1 i think you will be ok, especially with safety schools...

it seems that the uber-achievers weigh in really heavily on this board (and lsn), and while so much of the advice is great (believe me, it saved my a$$ when i was studying for the lsat), it doesn't always allow for real-world issues. like having a baby.

i think you should def include another safety, if only for your peace of mind. and because 5 years out of school is not THAT much to discount your gpa, though it is certainly WAY better than 1 or 2 years. if you showed an upwards progression (sounds like you did), that is even better.

i keep telling myself that, over and over and over. :D

Good luck at W&M!!!

I'd add another safety, just because I am paranoid like that.  It's def. not too late for that (and I bet you could get a FW).
