Michigan has a lot more to offer with a car.  With some transportation, you can explore Metro Detroit (which contrary to popular belief has a lot to offer) (and yes, Ann Arbor is a suburb of Deroit, sorry to burst your bubble).  Four casinos, all four major professional sports (if you have the money), and the bar scenes in Royal Oak, Birmingham, Pontiac, downtown, and Windsor if you want them really young.

I think you'll find that as a general rule, the T14 is more laid back than the rest of the law schools because there is no frenzied competition for decent jobs or mobility.  Everyone is getting a decent job and fair mobility out of a T14.  At a T3 on the other hand, you have the normal obsessive overachievers (who underachieved on the LSAT) in addition to people who now are insanely competitive because they need to be.

I attend Michigan, and I don't really think it's fun...but I think that might depend on two major things: where you're from and what you like to do. If you're one of those people who thinks getting drunk is the way to go, then you'll be fine at Michigan or anywhere else. Otherwise, I think the most entertainment to be found is obviously somewhere near or in a city. Sometimes, I wish I would have chosen Penn, because I don't think we "bust our asses" at Michigan...although I know many people would disagree with me...still, I have a lot of free time, and I spend much of it bored because 1) other people are always working and complaining about working, and 2) I don't think there's much of anything fun around here in walking distance and I don't have a car or anything). I'm not even from a city--I'm from somewhere where I'm used to being bored, but I'm sick of being bored, especially knowing that I *will* eventually be busting my ass when I get a job. I want to have fun for three years, and, unfortunately, I--and some other people--find Michigan pretty boring. The slack we get academically, in my opinion, lends itself to plenty of opportunities to have a good time...there's just not much here providing a good time.

whoa having time outside of school is a bad thing?  and nothing at michigan to do?

they have a great football team, you could go to a game
or enjoy the undergrads, if all the law students are busy studying I suggest you look for one or preferably several fit undergrads to spend time quality with

also "busting your ass" is overrated, why bust your ass if you can do well and enjoy yourself, I suggest you think about the drinking comment and maybe start
I'd also like to point out that just anywhere is not a good place for someone who enjoys drinking and the social side of life, the scenery is extremely important when drinking...

if im a law student at uva or any school with a party/frat ug crowd, i will be infiltrating the ug camps and banging freshman.

i will bridge the gap between the geeky law students and the sorostitutes they are all old enough and prestigious enough to finally bag.

that's the spirit

just teach the geeky law students how to casually drop the law school bit and it should be quick work

exactly.  what ug girl wouldnt dig a guy who is a few years older and on his way to a six figure job?

::raises hand::  I turned down a guy with a multi-million dollar trust fund because of how he treated his roommate's pet!   ;D

I'd like some input on this issue actually.  Why do girls go home with guys based upon things like law school, or wealth, etc.  They future job prospects shouldn't really be a factor in deciding who to shack-up with, I can garuntee that guys don't take it into consideration.  We are shallow and generally one-demensional though, at least when drunk at bars.

Because girls don't like boys, girls like cars and money.

1/2 idealist; 1/2 practical.  I don't even squish bugs, so I don't like it when people unrepentently kick random cats and dogs just because they happen to be in the way.  The second is that if a guy is not going to be nice to an animal that can't give him anything, chances are he'd treat me like garbage the second after he got into my pants.

youre pretty smart and reasonable.  i was jk btw.  i crossreferenced the lair thread, i like high maintenance girls.

I'm a little worried about UVA because I have a friend who says she knows a lot of people that went there and it'd be tough for a Northern guy down there because it's so Southern and they look down on that. I live 2 hours away in DC and so I have a feeling she's at least partially full of *&^% but I want to know to what degree.

i went to school 45 minutes from Charlottesville, in a rural town, and it was also a VA state school. even i never experienced southerners looking "down" on me and i'm a New Yorker.... though you might hear some "yankee" remarks from time to time, they usually are from older people and its not meanhearted.
not to mention, a lot of students hail from the suburbs of DC and HATE being identified with rural VA... because DC is surrounded by cookie cutter housing developments, strip malls and restaurants they all somehow feel superior to the rest of Virginia. all of my friends from Fairfax/Arlington distingish where they live by saying "NORTHERN Virginia" instead of just "Virginia"....
Charlottesville is a cool place, the bar scene is OK from what i can remember, i think there is a "square" with bars, i remember them being full of very WASPy frat guys in pink polos and tons of pearl girls? but you'll find that anywhere.
actually, i believe there is a guy on this board that is currently attending UVA...he'd know more.
