Book List for Fall '04

Alright, I am trying to get a list going for all the books I want for this fall, and start to get ahold of them all. (obviously the exact titles varies by 1L course's offered at each of our schools)

1. What about Gilbert's? Would anyone recommend this series as well?
2. Which legal dictionary to grab, Black's?
3. You know those 8x10 laminated "cheat" sheets they have for a couple bucks, anyone gonna grab those?
4. Hornbooks. What exactly is a hornbook. Should I be looking for certain authors or series?

My friend the lawyer says Emanuel is better than Gilbert.

He also said that I should not spend a lot of money on a dictionary.  "You don't need 20,000 terms defined.  Just the basics."  I got a pocket edition with 3,500 entries.

What about hornbooks?  Are they called "hornbooks"?  Are these outlines the same thing as hornbooks?  I just want to get my hands on them a little ahead of time, to just skim them over a bit ya know?

I'm not really familiar with the hornbooks.  Search the site.  There are some discussions of hornbooks.

From what i hear, you usually don't need hornbooks, and can use library copies if you really need to.  For some topics, Gilberts are supposedly better...depends on the topic and the person reviewing I guess.  I've compiled a list of suggestions I've heard and will post it one of these years

My friend recommended Glannon's book on Civil Procedure.  I have already read a few chapters of it and its pretty helpful.  On a different note, has anyone started to read the different cases in the casebooks and prepare briefs, or are people waiting in general for classes to start?
