A book just came out that argues that one of the reasons people aren't as agitated about global warming is that man is a temperate animal. Global warming sounds good to us, whereas we'd all be terrified of global cooling. Kind of a weird biological/anthropological perspective on politics, but there's probably some merit to it. I do occasionally think of Chicago turning into a San Francisco by the Lake when I think of global warming, and that doesn't sound too bad, really.
