Targeted Vs. General LOR

Targeted Vs. General LOR

I was wondering what the advantages and disadvantages are for targeted vs general letters. Under what circumstances would I use either types of letters? Which one do law schools weigh more? Also, if I wanted to write 5 targeted letters to 5 universities, does this mean that my prof has to write 5 letters? Thanks!

Usually, targeted letters are only an issue if you have an alum of a certain LS sending a letter to that law school for you, or if you're interested in environmental law at one school and health law at another, and have your environmental studies prof write one for the former and your biology teacher write one for the latter.
