Screwed by grading structures?
« on: November 10, 2005, 01:14:33 AM »
Does anyone else ever feel screwed that your school did not dole out A-pluses? I rocked so many classes that I'm certain I would have had enough of these to bring my GPA up at least a tenth of a point. If the LSAC is trying to standardize grading scales for admissions purposes, shouldn't they do away with A-pluses? Maybe I'm complaining about something that will prove to be largely irrelevant, but it sure would nice to have a 3.8.
I'm done with apps...waiting to visit schools and make a decision.

Are you mocking me? (It's OK if you are. I'm bored and this might have come across as an asinine post.)

No, I agree with you I feel I got screwed the same way everytime I see someone with a 4.01 or whatever...

But no I'm not serious considering a march on LSAC

Right. It's worse when you see applicants with GPAs .1 or more above what I could have possibly achieved. I guess I'm particularly frustrated by this because I have an uneasy feeling that my GPA is just a bit too low for some of the schools I've applied to (read HLS).

Interestingly enough I think my GPA is too low for them too (3.93) because I'm just .01 below the 75th percentile....at least you've got your LSAT above their 75th im screwed sitting at like 70th percentile for both! I'm useless to them!  Although your GPA is below their 25th, oh well so we're both screwed...

See you at Columbia??

LOL... I'm .01 below HLS's 25th for GPA. I would be happy at any school on my list, so if I don't get HLS, I will be  fine. Oh, and I love New York.

I think I'm in the least ideal position for lsdas gpa calc in the history of applicants:

1.My school doesn't give A+s.
2.My school gives 3.5 for B+s.
3.I had four A-s and one A while abroad, but my UG only recognizes A's, so they all transfered as 4.0 ;) but as expected lsdas counts them as their true point value when they get the transcripts.

My 3.78 dropped to a 3.69 - I've heard worse though.
GPA: 3.75

Same boat here on wishing they gave pluses. I'm pretty sure it would make more than .1 difference, more like .3 difference. Here's why: I got mostly very high A's in classes, and the only b's I got were borderline (I had 3 B's where I had 89.x average). So if the A+'s didn't help, the B+'s would have. Grrrr....
