I hate this. . . does this mean that they have already completed ED apps?  If so, have some people already been rejected?  Man, this sucks.

The body of the email:

"Your status as a "hold" should not be viewed as a
denial nor an invitation to the waitlist."

This means it should be viewed as an acceptance.

For the people who got in... did anyone notice if their online status was changed before they received the paper letter?

For those of yall that already found out, when did you send in your app??  I did mine on the 31st and they haven't even requested my report yet!!  Do they give you the EID after they request your report?  I'm so confused!!

Yeah I am also surprised you got deferred with a 168/3.8.

I posted this in some other threads, but I also got deferred (this was more expected for me though). I'm 165/3.76 in a hard science, not a TX resident.

168/3.8 probably would have been good enough from an in-state applicant but it's borderline for out of state. I've seen the adcomm quoted in a book as saying the in-state advantage is worth about 1-2 LSAT points and .1 - .2 UGPA. So, a 168/3.8 out of state has about the same shot as a 166/3.6 in state.

There's definately a good shot at getting in, but those numbers probably give something around the median index for out of staters so it's not a sure thing. UT uses the 20% of its class that comes from out of state to help pull up its numbers.

UT uses the 20% of its class that comes from out of state to help pull up its numbers.

UT's FAQ says 20%. Another page says:

"Admission to the J.D. program at UT Law is competitive. For the class entering in fall 2005, more than 5,400 applicants competed for the 450 seats in the entering class. In addition, the Texas Legislature has limited nonresident enrollment to 35% of the student body"

Can be found here: http://www.utexas.edu/law/depts/admissions/application/index.html

I am hoping that this quote is the correct one since it does mention 2005 numbers, and that the FAQ is out of date.
