With Aaron's and Flydog's dings, I'm starting to wonder if adcomms don't just randomly pick a few presumptive admits and put a big, black "X" through them to prove that they actually look beyond the numbers.

Thanks for the thought but I have four theories on why I got dinged.

1. Good old fashioned yield protection. Didn't do the optional essays or send them anything to show them they were a high choice.
2. My personal statement. It was dry and sarcastic. The Penn dean loved it, saying it was a relief to read after all the dull ones he has to slog through, but maybe UMich thought I was being too flip or arrogant.
3. Lack of major extracurriculars. Pretty much nothing outside my fraternity. I do have plenty of work experience (I've been working pretty much every semester I've been at school) but not too much volunteer activity. Whatever, it's not like the College Dems do anything anyway.
4. Disciplinary conduct. I have two disorderly conduct violations (one involved breaking ceiling tiles so I also got charged with vandalism) from my sophomore year. I did my apps before I found this site and I figured they don't want me to explain myself, excuses are like assholes. Maybe by not showing any contrition it raised a red flag.

Your theory does make a nice fifth one though.

Yes, I have been thinking about getting dinged by a school worse than others that would be at best my 4th choice way too much.

Any theories why flydog got dinged?    j/k

Not to de-rail... but DINGED at Bama. Letter received 1/20/06. Dated 1/12/06. Not surprised, just bummed.

Yesterday I got another rejection. This time from Appliachian School of Law. I don't really care that much thouhg. To me it is just another addition to the list. I'm still hoping for the best though. The main schools I am hopeing to hear better news have yet to ding me.

Chapman - Rejected

I am sorry about the rejection. That has got to be the weirdest rejection I have seen thus far. Chapman should be giving you a 1/2 ride to go there. Do not worry, unless you want to do Tax Law there is really no reason to go to Chapman. People say it is #1 in Orange County but they forget LA is about 30 mins away and San Diego about 1 hour. UCLA and USC still have stomping rights in Orange County.
