What are my chances?
« on: October 26, 2005, 05:52:57 PM »
I'm of Polish descent, 1st gen. american, whole nine yards. In addition to attending regular secondary school, I also attended and graduated from the John Paul II Foreign Language academy. The academy consists of an 8 year curriculum, meeting on weekends during the normal academic year. Studies in Polish grammar, reading and writing skills, history and culture. I targeted this topic in my PS.

My stats,

Residency: Connecticut
146 and 149 LSAT
3.1 UGPA (3.36 major in Business from UCONN)
1.5 yrs. work experience in licensed product development (negotiate contracts, develop product, etc)
Interested in Business law

Applied to:
New England School of Law
Quinnipiac
Western New England
Vermont
Touro
(The following are even more long-shots)
Syracuse Univ.
Albany Law
Univ. Maryland

What are my chances (be kind) and what other schools might I want to look into considering my specific interest in Business Law and wanting to practice in Connecticut after graduation.

I appreciate your help in advance.

Thanks!

http://www.chiashu.com/lsat.html
http://www.lawschoolstats.com/cgi-bin/cgi/index2.cgi
http://officialguide.lsac.org/UGPASearch/Search3.aspx?SidString=

are all calculators based on (fairly) recent admissions data that'll give you some idea of your chances.

for example, chiashu sez:

touro: 46.06%
new england: 34.95%
quinnipiac: 16.7%
vermont: 39.66%
WNEC: 56.58%

your "long shots"
syracuse: 16.04%
albany: 17.79%
maryland: 1.27%

i'd wager you'll get a bump from your soft factors (1st gen american, etc) and possibly your WE, so i'd guess you'll get into one of your schools. i'm not sure what other schools are in CT, or what the best places for business law are in the area.

Thanks for the reply. I guess I'm just looking for some reassurance. I've never done extremely well in school, but what I lack in "smarts" I make up in my work ethic and determination.

that counts for a lot ^_^

you've got a pretty good shot at getting into WNEC or Touro. they might not be glamourous compared to some, but i know people who've attended WNEC who've gone on to everything from clerkships on the us circut court of appeals to settling million dollar class action lawsuits to becoming professors themselves. so don't get down on yourself.
