3.4 and 163
« on: October 24, 2005, 07:17:43 PM »
Hello,

What are some good reaches for a 3.4 GPA and a 163 LSAT? My current reaches I think are too ridiculous. I prefer west coast, or a large city if on the east coast/midwest. I don't want to go to UC Davis

Here are my thoughts so far:

REACH:
1.   Notre Dame
2.   UCLA
3.   USC

TARGET:
1.   University of San Diego
2.   Ohio State
3.   UC Hastings (Maybe a reach?)
4.   Washington Univ (Maybe a reach?)

SAFETY:
1.   Pepperdine
2.   Loyola - LA
3.   Lewis and Clark
GPA: 3.4
LSAT: 163

Wow, we got real similar numbers and are applying to some of the same schools, too! I'm applying to some of the western schools you are. I think Hastings is more competitive than USD or Lewis and Clark but I'm not real sure.  Everywhere on your list is real close in terms of competitiveness.  I think you've probably got a good chance at most any of these schools, with Notre Dame, USC, UCLA, and maybe Hastings being the toughest...

Good Luck.

Having just come thru the app cycle with numbers substantially similar/slightly better than yours:

UCLA/USC - very unlikely
ND/WashU -  unlikely, but possible (I was accepted later, after some time on the waiting list.)

Minnesota is the highest ranked school you have a realistic shot of getting into.  What about the DC schools (GMU, American) or Fordham?

I think Fordham is IN NYC, but I don't know if I am correct. Have you thought about any southern schools? Your numbers would put you in Emory, UNC, and some others. Don't forget the Boston schools either.

Not sure if I want to practice in the South, but those are nice schools.

Fordham is in the Bronx
Your numbers will get you into Emory w/ an early app, but UNC is very unlikely unless you are in-state (75% quota)

I've got very similar numbers. I like your list, except for UCLA. I would be VERY surprised if you were even waitlisted there. Best of luck to you, I hope us 3.4/163's become quite the hot ticket this cycle... every school will want a few :D
