I'm half Egyptian, a quarter Irani and a quarter Turkish.  I've always identified myself as South Asian, so much so that I've worked with their organizations etc and always identifiy as Asian on those polls that ask.  Would it make THAT much of a difference to say that I'm African American.   And would it be shady, since I've already said I'm Asian??

I'm a little confused as to why you call yourself South Asian?  Were you born there or have you lived there for an extended period?
