I gotta agree with lobe.  You need something unique.  Most everybody probably writes about something to do with family.  It gets old.  Thr alligator is not promising.  Use that investigative mind you have and really come up with something unique and interesting.  You have plenty of time.  Once you get the premise, all that's left is the easy part, writing it.
Spend more time on the idea than writing it.
