Re: What happens to the USNWR ranks if reputation scores are removed?

Unfortunately it's pretty tough to rank the schools minus the rep (as opposed to the relative ease that with which you can rank them by rep). The 'Faculty Resource' aren't easily accessible and so it's hard to create a new ranking.

Though if someone wants to hand enter each school's library volume total and estimate expenditures per student, it could be done.

I actually came across this post while looking for something entirely different...but it caught my attention

anyway, it would be just as easy to rank schools minus rep as only on rep.  Since the rep scores are plainly visible and since we know the peer assessement score is 25% of the ranking and the lawyer score is 15% all that needs to be done is this:
1) take the peer score and multiple by 5.102040816326530612244897959 1837
2) take the lawyer score and multiple by 3.061224489795918367346938775 5102
3) add the answers from 1 and 2
4) subtract answer from 3 from the school's overall score

This would create a new set of rankings where Yale gets a score of 60 and everybody else falls somewhere below them relative to how well they do minus the rep scores.

Since somebody made the claim that stanford would fall below nyu i'll calculate those two as an example:
Stanford
1) 24.48979591836734693877551020 4082
2) 14.69387755102040816326530612 2448
3) 39.18367346938775510204081632 652
4) 92 - 39.18367346938775510204081632 652 = 52.81632653061224489795918367 348

NYU
1) 23.46938775510204081632653061 2242
2) 13.77551020408163265306122448 9795
3) 37.24489795918367346938775510 2035
4) 86 - 37.24489795918367346938775510 2035 = 48.75510204081632653061224489 797

Thus, Stanford maintains significant distance from NYU...the spread went from 6 points to only 4.061224489795918367346938775 51 points, however.

Based on rep-

T14 *****
1) Harvard Law School
2)   Stanford University Law School
3)    University of Chicago Law School
4)    Yale Law School
5)    Columbia University School of Law
6)    University of Michigan Law School
7)    University of Virginia School of Law
8)    Duke University School of Law
9)    New York University School of Law
10)    University of California, Berkeley School of Law (Boalt Hall)
11)   University of Pennsylvania Law School
12)   Cornell Law School
13)   Georgetown University Law Center
14)   Northwestern University School of Law

Tier 1 ****

Duke would not be 8th it would be tied for 8th with the 3 schools below it (NYU, Boalt, and Penn). The school you are going to does not get to be ranked higher just because it begings with a "D".

It seems obvious to me that the ranking only on rep is much more accurate than the ranking without the rep. Which makes sense. Law is an organized profession, and people in the profession should have a very good sense of what the best law schools are.
