Law student's unique pitch for job interview

Matthew Toll is about to graduate from law school and he'd like to snag a
$70,000 job. So he prepared a rather unique pitch for an interview and just
sent it to about 30 firms. This kid is going places:

I wouldn't.

In particular, he must have taken all of ONE intro-level Operations and Information Management course considering all he can draw out of the experience is learning computer skills and building an *extremely* basic website.  If he had taken some of the more advanced classes in that particular concentration, then perhaps I'd be impressed, but the level of emphasis he seemed to place on having taken that course leads me to question the quality of the other courses he took while in undergrad.

Then again, this coming from a techie and not a law firm.

Its cute and everything but its too long. Uniqueness still needs to be filtered through conciseness.

Stuff about mother's funeral and the wedding; thats a real amateurish way to put the point across. I'd be weary of someone who would tries to come off soooo hungry that he would want to put work before mandatory human duties.

i saw that while ago. i think it's funny as hell, but too long. the kid's got chutzpah and that's worth something. he'll probably get auto-dinged though from lots of stuffy firms.

let's face it, law firms are out to make a buck and want someone that is willing to do those things but they want lawyers to claim they provide a unique and valuable service. why not just call it like it is? the guy wants to make money, so does the law firm, that's their only end.

he sounds like a jackass to me.  im sure he will wind up wherever he belongs.  i doubt most employers have the time or the inclination to read all that crap he put together.  i also think it reflects poorly on him that he would brag about doing his mothers eulogy by teleconference.

to me that says "i am disloyal to those who have provided me with the most in life" and "my ethics and values are for sale"

Right, i bet he is doing all of this stuff because he can't stand on the merits of his performance in school.  my read would be he is in the bottom half of his class.
