Update on GMU

I met with Dean Richard at GMU and was told the same thing that they have told everyone....just wait. They plan on reevaluating the waitlist after July 1st when the next round of deposits are due. Decisions regarding the waitlist will be sent out after July 8th as stated earlier.

Any more insights from meeting with Dean Richard? Could you gauge your chances of acceptance off the waitlist?

And is she as nice in person as over the phone?

Good for you that you took the initiative to visit.  Any other thoughts about your trip you would like to share?

There has been no update regarding the waitlist since that last postcard GMU sent out. If you havent already, check out the GMU discussion board for more info and possible updates (http://www.masonlaw.org/cgi-local/ultimatebb.cgi). As for the meeting, it was awesome and yes she is extremely friendly. We talked about upcoming movies and other things as well as the law school. Meeting people like her make the desire of getting in that much greater. All she could tell me about the waitlist is wait. They cannot gauge the waitlist until they get an update from all the deposits that were due on July 1st. I am guessing that the ad comm will be meeting this week/weekend and will send updates to us after july 8th as the postcard said. A student showed me around the school and I really liked what I saw. If you dont know, the school was built in 99 and has all the ammenities a strong law school needs (westlaw/nexis). The law student told me that it is somewhat competitive regarding getting top grades, but the students will go out of their way to help you if needed (and sometimes they will ask you if you need help or an outline if your struggling). The area GMU as in is also nice. I never visited DC before and I really liked what I saw when I visited. All in all, I feel fortunate that I even got on the waitlist. It is a great school and is the "perfect fit" for me and my future plans. Good luck with the waitlist and your future plans. Hope to see you in the Fall.

Glad to hear your impressions were so positive Midjeep!

Just curious, did you discuss housing with current students? I'm assuming that most live in VA- do the majority live in close proximity to campus? Seeing as you live outside the area, have you considered housing should you get admitted off the waitlist?

Most students live near campus or near a metro stop in the area. The rent ranges from 800-1000 per month for a one bedroom but I am sure you can find cheaper if you look around or look for a roommate. The law student I talked to said that the vast majority of students do drive to school (70%). I didnt want to bring my car if I did get in, but parking is cheap at GMU and the metro closes before midnight, so late nights at the school really isnt possible if you rely on the metro alone.

I really do not think that the few of us who are hoping for GMU should get excited just yet.  We are all salivating over July 8th, yet I feel that it could and probably still will be a few weeks before we know anything.  I expect a significant lag between tomorrow and any real update on our situation.

Well according to Dean Richard, decisions regarding the waitlist will be made at the end of next week (around the 15th). She also addressed the issues at how offers will be made; by telephone and regular mail. Good luck to everyone still waiting.

They will make decisions by the 15th or we will notified by the 15th.  Those are two different things.  I personally would really like to know by then.  As midjeep already stated, good luck to everybody!  Time will tell.
