Joint Checking Account- Yay or Nay
« on: June 25, 2004, 07:34:43 PM »
Ok, before you scoff or try to murder me, hear me out.

I was thinking of setting up a joint checking account for my gf and I, cause we live together, pay the same bills, always go out and eat together, blah blah blah. Our expenses are merged, so I thought it would be easier to set something like this up.

The only thing that might be a concern is tax time, cause we file separate returns, but obviously checking accounts don't draw interest so no income to report, so that should be fine as well..

Pros and cons to this?

ehh.. I'd never sign a prenup.  A marriage is supposed to be based on trust, and people pretty much sign a document saying, well just in case this doesn't work out...

Sounds pretty stupid to me.

Yeah I agree, and for most people you don't need one.  But if you have a huge trust fund and/or your father's last name is DuPont, if you don't sign a prenup you are asking for trouble.

prenups rule.  i am definitely getting one if I am successful as a lawyer.  why put yourself through anything.  it isn't a big deal.  you can include stipulations and such.

you're the f-ing MAN Cho...

I dont know how you do it but...

Where I come from, I have my own money, my girl's got her own money...
I spend my own money, she spends my money...
Tho she's given me flights to Paris, weekends in Hawaii, trips to New York...
I have never been in a position where I can say "shared expenses"
I guess some of stems from my 'gotta feel like a Man' mentality

So your girl's Chinese too?  Damn, I didnt know there were still Asian chicks out there that were still down with the Dutch thing

Good *&^% Bro... Keep up the good work... I love the fact there are still Asian guys out there willing to stand up for themselves and let their women know how its gonna be.
