NYU/York joint JD/LLB program
« on: September 17, 2005, 09:03:47 PM »
both law schools are top notch and should provide outstanding employment prospects. this program is basically tailored made to my interests as it will keep my options open in both canada and the states. not to mention networking opportunities in the financial capitals of both countries.

any others applying ?
Accepted: Harvard, Georgetown, Michigan, Berkeley, Virginia, Stanford, NYU, Penn, Cornell, Yale

I will be applying as well, but I 'll be a borderline if not a quick reject with NYU

your numbers are great and as an urm applicant, you have an excellent shot.

nyu's expensive but they have an exceptional loan program for us canucks. costs lots of moolah, but nyc biglaw pays lots of moolah !!!

I wouldn't call York "top notch". It isn't bad by any means, but I've known many people who have had real difficulty finding work upon graduation.

i think a bigger question is why bother with the joint degree if you have the numbers to get into a top american school? a) nyu is in many ways the 'york' of nyc. b) it makes it somewhat easier to practice in canada in the future but you will still have to article, something that will seem distinctly unattractive after having spent a few years making 150K in NYC.

cheers all

Just out of curiosity, I read somewhere in their info that current Osgoode students could apply after their second year to the joint program, and spend their next 2 years at NYU to get both degrees. And my question was, is this just for current students (ie those who started before the program was initiated?) or could someone theoretically be accepted to Osgoode, but not the joint program, go to osgoode for two years, then apply for the joint program?

So, ehm and Joey, what are the plans now?  Especially you, ehm (congrats on Yale, btw).
Pish, J only wants to waste YOUR time.  Get wise.
