Nah, there's just so much to do/see and so little time in which to do it!  I love waking up.

Train is the worst idea ever.  It's more plane-prices for bus-times.  And Amtrak is unreliable as *&^%.  Expect for your train to leave late, get stuck somewhere along the trip, and just be miserable all around.  You can talk on your phone on the bus.  The bus also leaves you in Manhattan (Port Authority).  Bus may even be quicker than 5 hours (though not Greyhound, just Chinatown).  I agree with Tina.  Unless you're doing a very short trip to NYC where time is of the essence, hop on the bus.

50 bucks for Greyhound to New York at 5 hrs or 170 bucks for a 1hr plane ride?

Take the plane (or the train).  Greyhound sucks.  Every time I had taken the Greyhound it's been a bad experience. Bus driver late, rude, insane...

The last time I rode some 400 lb man sat beside me, proceeded to fall asleep, and then lean on me.  I had to keep waking him up. And I stay pretty cool, but he was making my "side" of the seat warm. >:(

Amtrak has plenty of room to stretch out, and a plane ride is quick.
