How soon to get a rec letter?

How soon to get a rec letter?

How long do you have to work somewhere before you can get a letter of recommendation from a supervisor there? I started working here a few (about 3) months ago-- do you think it will carry any weight? Do you think they'd be willing to recommend after such a short tenure?

On the one hand, summer interns often leave their internships with letters of recommendation, and they usually work less than 3 months. On the other hand, for a job with no set end-point, they might expect you to prove yourself more before they would want to write a letter. Do they know you are planning to go to law school next year (i.e. quit)? You will have to feel them out...

I'm in the same boat, I've been working for about 2 months now.
I noticed on one school's instructions (Boalt or Columbia, I believe) that they want you to submit a letter from your employer if you've been working full time.
Do you think they really want an employer letter if it's been such a short time?
