baff was the moniker of a poster who often tagged a thread with *tag* for his unreads.  he was made fun of by posters from xoxohth.com and changed his name.  baff is a tribute to that poster. 

bump means you are just posting to get the topic back up to the top of the recent posts lists as to attract more attention and further posts.
