Accidentally Slurred in Class
« on: August 22, 2014, 07:43:33 PM »
Hey guys,

In the hypothetical that I used in a class discussion, I accidentally used the word "bulls@%t," but not at anyone, of course. Just in the hypothetical I used. But now the Assoc. Dean wants to see me. What's the worst that you think could happen?

Yes. I know it was dumb. But it was an accident.

I'm amazed the dean actually wants to speak with you. This is not a big deal, no one is going to get kicked out of school or reported to the bar for using a naughty word once. I had a professor drop an f-bomb in class and everyone just laughed.

I imagine you'll be told not to do it again, professionalism, etc.

Public school, doubt they can do much unless it was directed at someone and somehow constitutes harassment, etc.

Private school...well, if this is a religious affiliated school they might take it more seriously. Otherwise, it seems excessive, but perhaps the school has a thing against swearing in class.

I am pretty sure at any law school/college they can say "stop swearing" otherwise people would be in class all day going "its f-ing A dawg, its mother f-ing answer A!"

I had professors cuss in class a little strange the professor took it up to the Dean. Perhaps it was a student that said something, which is why the Dean is involved, but odds are once he/she hears all you said was bulls**t in class they will say it is unprofessional to use profanity in class you need to use your words carefully as a lawyer, etc .

In the real world people cuss all the time it is not good, but it happens.

I am sure you will be fine bulls**t is not even that bad of word, basically you should be fine if you just apologize and say it won't happen again.

I'm sure OP will be fine as long as he plays it cool and doesn't get all "this meeting is bull too!" with the Dean.
But the "Real World" doesn't matter. Do it in court and even worse can happen.
