LGBT - Coming Out on the Application

I've seen a few so far, not many, college applications asking whether the applicant identifies as LGBT. 

If an applicant is not very open about his/her sexuality would it be more appropriate to answer "Yes" or "No." 

I'm curious if it is unethical to answer "No" to the above mentioned question if in fact it is true?  Or if it would be overstating the identity if one selected "Yes" when their sexuality is something they rarely share with others.   

Side note: Some apps do allow for the applicant to check "this does not apply."

Just go with what you identify if you know you are gay then come out and say it. It probably won't make much of a difference in your application at all. They will care about your test scores, GPA, just go with your gut. If you are still concerned call the admissions department from an anonymous phone number, don't identify yourself, and ask the question. They will know the answer better than some anonymous internet poster like myself.
