Presidential Names

I've noticed that some fine folks enjoy calling President Obama “Barry,” and Governor Romney “Mittens.” Pejorative, to be sure, but I’m wondering, why did Obama stop going by the nickname “Barry?” It’s a pretty great nickname. Further, why did Romney stop going by his first name, Willard? That’s a presidential name.

Saying a politician is named after a rat is pretty darned insulting... to the rat.
