Am I a Jew?

According to my mom, her biological grandfather had the surname Katz.  He was from the Ukraine.  That would make him my biological great grandfather on my mother's side.  So, does that make me a Jew?

I don't know about my great grandfather, but my dad was a lawyer.  He graduated from Akron Law.

OK then you have some Jewish blood and a lawyer in the family - that makes you a Jew too if you want to be one.

If you consider yourself a Jew then you are, if not then you aren't.

You appear to have Hebrew DNA, and your religion is your choice (judaism or otherwise)

Why do you ask? I don't think it counts as URM.

When in dount, consult a Rabbi. They'd be the  one who truely knows the proper answer according to jewish law.
