Is it too late to ask for a LOR?
« on: November 10, 2011, 07:11:00 PM »
I have two very good LORs, one from my senior thesis advisor, and one from the professor I did a research assistantship for. However I was also a student representative on an administrative panel (so non-academic), and the director became pretty familiar with me. She always had good things to say.

I know it's kind of late for this cycle, but I'm taking the Dec LSAT anyway, would it be advisable to ask her for one? It would give her about 2 months. What do you think?

Basically, I just need to know: is it too late in the cycle to ask for a LOR, given that my app will be sent in January anyway?

Thanks in advance for your help! I really appreciate it.

Thank you for your reply.

Any reason NOT to ask for it?

Best answer to why not to ask for one is if they don't know you or your work very well. I found that the best way to ask for a letter was to ask if they felt they could be a good reference and talk about things they might write, rather than just to ask for a letter.

IRRX, it seems you enjoy provocation and antagonism.

What's the unwritten courtesy period?  I want to say a month before it needs to be sent, but I'm not too sure.
"Thank you for inviting me, Mrs. Palin." "Thank you for cutting your mullet, Levi."
