What is International Law?

Hi all,

I have just start my new freshman year that majors in Law and I have an assignment: "What is International Law"? Though it's so easy to copy the definition from the course book, I don't want to. I want new point of view abt this concept. Do you have one, or do you have any source that I can use as reference?

not really. She just want us to have an overall view about the concept of International Law. The diversity of definitions is encouraged. This may good in some aspect, but quite difficult for me to understand all of the definition because each of them mentions a different side of International Law! :|

That is an excellent question.

The answer depends quite a bit on the context, of course, but my usual stock answer is that "international law" is like People's Court (or Judge Judy for you young'uns) crossed with a lynchmob.

Either that, or just a complete fiction.  One or the other.

Of course, that's just my opinion, and reasonable minds may differ.
