What is the most effective way to stay up late and study? Simply caffeine?

As someone who's always been a night owl, try this:  Go to sleep.  Work intensively in the morning, parts of the afternoon, and early evening.  Then relax.

Don't cram.  It doesn't work, and it's an awful way to pretend to learn.  There's an excellent book that goes into detail on this.  It's short, and focuses on effective learning:  Law School Fast Track.

Thane.

PS:  Yes, I know, many of us stay up late.  It's cool, it's fun.  I wrote books late at night.  (Early in the morning, really.)  But still, I have to support the author of Law School Fast Track on this.

It's not Adderall. No, definitely not Adderall.

The cause certainly cannot be that plague! right??  Smart young people with intellectual potential cannot be that dumb, right?  Please poke me and say it aint so even though I'm pretty sure it is.

Just one of many I pulled up with a quick google:
http://collegecandy.com/2010/04/26/college-qa-to-take-adderall-or-not-to-take-it/

Interesting quote from it:

Quote
Adderall is one of those things that is a constant presence on any college campus. Some of my friends swear by it (I’m positive that they wouldn’t have survived most of their classes without it). I have tried it once, but I didn’t feel much of anything. In fact, the only effect I experienced was increased drunkenness when I celebrated finishing a 25-page paper at the bar.

I had trouble reconciling the honesty of that statement from Party Girl given how she finished it.  Really Party Girl, just once?

Quote
If I made it through all these years of drinking and cramming without Adderall, you can too. Just grab a cup of coffee/tea, all your books, and plant your ass at the library. It will add up to the same result, trust me. Good luck!

There is nothing like studies after one has taken caffeine or material like that. What use cramming things with your subconscious mind?

NOS.

BVitamins mostly. (plus creatine and caffiene, etc)

You will get "roid rage" if you do it too much though. Trust me, taking an exam while wanting to rip a phonebook in half.........not cool.

It's still caffeine for me. In the afternoon I take at least 3 hour nap.
