What is the deal with application checkers? Do schools really update your status before sending in lieu of a letter of rejection/acceptance? If they do, that seems like a pretty cold and informal way of rejecting someone. They at least could take the time to copy and paste your name into a form of written communication before they reject you.

I received a rejection today only via the application checker. I was also notified of being on the wait-list only from the checker, and accepted on the checker along with 3 emails from another school. Possibly something is in the mail as well, but I havent seen anything from the 3 yet.
