Question about application dates...

So a school I'm considering applying to as a backup has their application available already. It's not my first choice, but I have my materials ready to submit. I have a definite first choice school whose application isn't available until September. My question: Should I apply this early to the backup school, or would it show my first choice I'm not as committed to attending there? Or does it matter at all? It should be noted that I plan on letting my first choice know I will attend if admitted in my PS. Please let me know. Thanks a lot!

I don't think it matters at all. I don't even think that information about your application history is made available to the schools you are applying for. Also, you could always apply through the Early Decision process, which is binding. That would be enough to let the school know that they're your definite first choice.
