Patent Law
« on: July 13, 2010, 07:16:41 PM »
I am currently am an engineer with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. I am considering going to law school to practice patent law. My preference would be to continue working full time while I go to school but can I practice patent law with an online law degree or do I need to go to an ABA accredited school to sit for the bar exam in my state (CT)? Are there other requirements for practicing patent law? Please forgive my ignorance.

You can take the patent bar without ANY JD. Ironicly a JD (even ABA approved) can't sit the patent bar(without the right undergrad degree) but your Bachelors in science is all you need to sit it. You can earn the JD too, but you can work as a patent agent while in school too.
