anyone successful in getting off of the waitlist into acceptance? If so, how did you do it?

I didn't personally succeed, but I have two friends that did by first going for visit and then offering to pay the deposit or you can just offer to pay the deposit in an e-mail. I think schools like the initiative and if you are really committed they will know that if you are the deposit you are more serious than others on the waitlist. I think the earlier you show you are committed and willing to put money down the more likely you are to succeed. Also adding additional letters of recommendation can help.

what if your deferred for further consideration?

well, i sent in a letter of continued interest and e-mailed the associate dean two days ago.  Although I am 100% willing to put down the deposit, I dont know if it will be formal.  I don't want to be "rude" and piss them off. 

As for deferred students, it's a completely different story.  Waitlist means they like you but aren't accepting you because there aren't any space left while deferred means they will push you back to re-review your application with the other pool of applicants.  so putting down a deposit won't really work for deferred students (IMHO).

I just got in off of Wisconsin's wl... All I can say is campaign, campaign, campaign. Let them know you're interested, and make them remember your name. Of course, don't be annoying... But I emailed, a week later talked to the dean, week after that visited and met with the dean, the next week I sent a thank-you card, and the week after that I sent in my LOCI. So yeah, and I had another letter of recommendation sent to the school by an alumni specifically saying why I should get in. And it worked! Either they now want me, or they gave in, but I'm happy either way.

thats interesting story, i am still deferred, so we will see, I told them that i am even willing to take part time or full time, but either way i want in to the school.  I dont think im gana like email or call them or such because I dont want to annoy them.

I was just admitted off of Rutgers Camden waitlist.  I re-took the LSAT in June and scored a 165.  They immediately admitted me and gave me a scholarship.
