Is going from 163 baseline to 170-175 in 5 weeks realistic??

I just recently took 2 sample LSATs (October 1996 and June 2007) and scored 163 / 165.
I'm considering writing in February 2010, but the exam is only 5 weeks away.

My goal would be a 170-175.

In my opinion, I need to improve on is primarily Critical reasoning, and getting quicker in the RC.

Any feedback on whether this is realistic or not?

not really.  it might be possible if you get a tutor and try to fix some things.

I don't think it's likely. Get a tutor, see why you are making mistakes, take another diagnostic (a more recent one please) and see if you should postpone.

I say yes.  The initial studying gets you the most results.  Get the powerbook on critical reasoning and work through it.  All you need is a few questions per section to get to 170.

But approaching 180 becomes asymptotically harder

I think it is very doable.

I was scoring in that range 6 weeks before the test and got a 170 on the real thing.

The powerscore bibles worked for me, maybe it is not only a specific area but also your approach/technique.

If you do get a tutor be sure to get the most of it. You don't want to pay all that $$$ just to listen to something you could get from a $20 book.

Since there's no rush right now in terms of admission deadlines, i think i'm going to wait until June.

If anyone care share good resources (self-study) I'd appreciate it!
I know some people have recommended powerscore's LG and LR bibles... any other books that are better or as good in your experience?

I think that nothing beats doing timed, full length official tests.

The bibles, Kaplan, etc are useful for learning techniques that you haven't tried.
