Financing Summer Abroad Programs?
« Reply #320 on: August 02, 2008, 05:21:29 PM »
I'm going to be entering law school in the fall, and I've started looking into what I might do next summer.  I probably don't want to work a SA job, which would be a long-shot anyway, so I've begun to look at summer abroad.  The only problem is that most of these programs cost upwards of 6 or 7K, not including airfare.  Does anyone know if there is an alternative source of financial aid for these sorts of programs, especially if they are not done through my law school? Also, does anyone know of any summer abroad programs in India or elsewhere in or dealing directly with the "South Asian" world, other than the one run through Touro?  That one sounds pretty cool to me, but I'd like to have more options.

Visiting Schools - Do they take note?
« Reply #321 on: August 03, 2008, 12:10:45 AM »
Just a question I've been pondering and wondering people's thoughts. There are two schools which I'm really keen on applying to this upcoming cycle which are somewhat within driving distance (well driving distance of my mom). I would like to go and scope out the campus for myself but one school is only about an hour away from her (though I visited it before when I was thinking of transferring there) while the other is about 4 - 5 hours away (excluding time at the border) and in a major city so it would be a full on day trip. I don't mind driving for 5 hours (ignoring the price of gas) and I do want to visit, so I was just wondering if adcomm's take note of it? Clearly it's not going to make or break your application, and probably not even help you off the bubble, but I just wanted to know if it was kept on file or anything. Or does it depend on the school?

Law Review and Another Journal???
« Reply #322 on: August 04, 2008, 12:30:40 PM »
So, I mad Law Review, and I'm very happy about that. However, I'm already on another journal. THe journal that I'm on already is a very well connected journal. Lots of folks get clerkships from networking based on the journal, and many judges/employers like it a lot. However, Law Review is Law Review, right? I was thinking I could do both. Would that be a bad idea? Do people do multiple journals (LR + another journal)? Thanks for any advice.

Good sign?
« Reply #323 on: August 05, 2008, 10:20:10 PM »
So i got an email from a firm i am very interested in interviewing with that basically said "thank you for your interest.  We are very impressed by your resume and would like to know what ties you have to our offices."   Does that sound like they will be inviting me down for an interview if they find my ties to the office to be sufficient?

Thanks!

Disappointed in OCI - Read this instead

I'm a little disappointed about how few interviews I've gotten after applying to twenty-nine places (for the first week). Specifically, I am a 2L at American University, in the top twenty-five percent, and am on the international law journal. Despite this, I only got one interview (Thompson Hine). Is this normal? If not, what should I do now to ensure that I have a job next summer? In addition, how many more places should I apply to/how many interviews is a *good* number so that I am playing it safe?

Olympic Games thread
« Reply #327 on: August 08, 2008, 11:56:58 AM »
I have yet to see video of the opening ceremony, but I have seen about 50 pictures.  Anyone seen it?  I think it could be the best opening ceremony in Olympics history.  Hell, at least it's better than that *&^% Norway put out in 1998.  Let's discuss themes, pyrotechniques, etc.

I graduated from a well regarded university last year with a high GPA in a demanding program, and have been taking the LSAT on and off for quite a while (both before and since graduating.) I have taken the LSAT three times in three years and can't seem to pull my score up above the mid 150's, even with a tutor. I'm hoping to retake in October, and have studied virtually everything that's out there (LGB, LRB, etc...), and have taken several dozen preptests cumatively (20 - mid 40's) since I started originally studying several years ago. My games stay constant at -7, my RC about -5 and my LR's average between -8 to -10 each. There's not each a specific question type I'm missing, it's just all across the board.

I took a half a year off from studying after my second attempt in Dec 07 due to other academic commitments, and feel I'm not getting anyplace, although I can't understand why. I'm also concerned that if I'm having this amount of trouble with the "older" tests, I might get slammed when trying again with the newer, much more recent tests (i.e. 50's).

A good part of me feels like giving up on this and can't stand to look at this anymore, although the other part says law school will be far more intense (albeit much less abstract which I'm absolutely fine with) and hopes my score will rise by a few points with a retake and feels like what do I have to lose by retaking a fourth time since I won't be starting law school until next fall. To make matters more troubling, the schools I am focused on are in the 60's, 70's and 80's with median LSAT's of around 159. I feel that If I don't retake, I'll be sunk when applying.

So, any advice on how to get unstuck?
