166, 3.0 - Do I have any business applying top 40?
« on: November 17, 2009, 04:55:03 PM »
I have a 166 LSAT and 3.0 GPA, was wondering what schools should be in my wheelhouse.

I have decent softs: graduated from a fairly elite undergrad, relevant work experience with solid recs, and a significant upward trend in grades (3.4 GPA or higher each of last four semesters). However, I have been led to believe these things don't really matter.

Do I have any business applying to schools in the top 40? Could I get into a place in the top 50, like Tulane?

Thanks.

You could get into plenty of schools in the top 40. Probably most schools outside of the top 25 (and potentially some within) are in play. However, don't just blindly go to the highest ranked school. There are a lot of other considerations out there.

Check out lawschoolnubmers.com if you haven't already for a more specific idea.

Agreed with nealric.

Good chance for top 25. Don't neglect to do your research first though.

Don't kid yourself, that is a very decent LSAT score. GPA could be higher but, barring and heinous criminal record, I'd say you have a decedent shot at the Top 30 too.

I was in at Iowa with a slightly higher GPA and same LSAT plus full scholarship. Probably would have been in and Wisconsin, but got waitlisted due to criminal record.
