Got a Business card, Advice Appreciated.

So I gave a speech at a scholarship dinner, and afterwards one of the attendee's came up to me and asked me questions. He was really interested in the topics I discussed in my speech and gave me his business card (without me asking him). He is a partner at a V100 firm.

My question is how do I proceed and ask him if there is anything available in terms of employment for this summer. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

Oh and I am at a T20 school, good GPA. Thanks.

Don’t come out and ask him that yet, straight out. Call or e-mail him and invite him to lunch (offer to pay but likely he will) at lunch ask him some questions about what he would, knowing what he knows now, do in LS to prepare for working. What classes he enjoyed, what advice he has ect. Just general stuff, then in the conversation ask him what things you can do to make yourself more attractive for firms like his for this summer. See what he says. Work with that, i.e. work it into a larger conversation w/o actually coming out and saying I NEED A JOB. People like to help when they think they are doing you a favor on their own more than when they think you’re asking for a favor. Good luck.
