Work experience?
« on: September 17, 2009, 11:08:10 PM »
Is there any particular work experience that would help me get into a top 10 school?  I currently work in the finance department of a marquee NFL team (two years out of school).  Many higher ups in pro sports have a JD.  I've been thinking for years about getting a JD, maybe an MBA too.  Now I have another motive.  I figure given the fact schools like to recruit a well-rounded class from a diverse background, and since pro sports is a really popular/unique industry that lots of people want to work in, it might make my application more attractive.

You start a multi-million dollar company or solve world hunger. Otherwise, count on a good LSAT :D

Yeah, your experience *might* help you, but without a LSAT score within a school's range, it probably won't help too much.  Don't play with fire and study hard for the LSAT!

You'd think that any work in a law related field would help.

Definitely counting on a big LSAT score, but I was operating under the assumption that everyone else who applies would have a banging score as well.

Well, not everyone. It's basically a numbers game.  Look at the graphs on www.lawschoolnumbers.com

Since law schools are such whores to the numbers, it may not help you with admissions. But, I think it may help you down the line when you're looking for work. It'll certainly give you something solid to refer to if you want a finance or sports related legal position.

This is true.
