PS length?

PS length?
« on: September 01, 2009, 12:22:27 PM »
I'm starting on my PS for Pepperdine and I'm wondering how long it should be? The length of the PS is not provided on Pepperdine's website under its PS requirements. What is mentioned is that it must be "brief". So by "brief" is the PS supposed to be 2 two pages maximum? Or just one page?

I apologize for this ridiculous question. I glanced through the topics in this forum and didn't find anything similar to my question.

Thank you for your time and thank you for reading this.

usually most colleges are looking for a two pager(except if you are Berkeley-they ask for a 4pager). If your story is interesting enough, maybe 2 1/2, 3pages, but in general, they have a lot of apps to look at and reading a 10pg PS is not what they want.

hope this helps

Thank you very much for the informative response. I thought two pages would be about right.

The ideal length for the personal statement should be 2 pages, even if the applications furnishes you with more space.  It is key to compose the personal statement with one item in mind: draft it so that it resonates with your audience, and more specifically, the cirucmstance of the admissions officer.  Therefore, be dynamic and compelling within 2 pages, principally because the admissions committee reads thousands of statements, and because of this, will skim longer essays.  Thus, the hallmark should be quality over quantity, and a focused thematic scope.

Best of luck!

Does this generally mean single, double, or 1.5 spacing?

Usually double.

Always double spaced, and never go below 11-point font.  Also, be cognizant that Pepperdine Law also requires an additional essay that centers on studying law at a Christian institution, which provides you with another opportunity to address points about yourself that were not addressed in the personal statement.  Thus, stave clear from being redundant, and if you need additonal space to address an extenuating circumstance or personal challenge, exercise the addendum option.

If you have any questions, or would like an expert review of your statement, please do not hesitate to contact me.
