Private advisor to read over apps?
« on: June 27, 2009, 11:47:02 PM »
Has anyone ever used/is using a private advisor, outside of school, to read over their PS and resume before sending it into schools?  If so, any recommendations on who to hire?  Thanks!

Be careful...

Having someone proofread your personal statement is an excellent idea. However, some schools have statements that strictly prohibit paid preparation services in application materials.

Furthermore, I don't think they are worth it.  Personal statements should be personal...  There are so many different styles of writing and so many good editors at a university...  Just not worth it...
