I don't know about the banning, but it does seem like it's routine for Miss P and others to complain about other posters.  That's just stupid.  How can any one say ANYTHING on an online forum that hurts you so badly you need to "report" them?  It's an ANONYMOUS forum, you freaks.  My god.

Perhapse you missed the part about anonymity discussed a few pages back, but not everyone on LSD is anonymous. People know who Sands is, who Earl Cat is, who I am, who Miss P is, and who Irrx is who a bunch of people are on here in real life. Other people know who other people are, including lawyers who post here.

The posters who have outed themselves have universally done it to help the board, to place themselves up as individual examples in some thread that has lead to their identity being easily ascertainable. They also don’t hide that fact, nor do they rely on anonymity as an excuse to be an asshat. Just because your anonymous and chose to stay that way does not necessarily mean everyone else is as well. Something to consider before you start calling out people for worrying about their rep on the internets while you choose to stay anonymous. And welcome back by the way.

Jason, you're rehashing what I already stated, but let me add that Miss P takes responsibility in the new thread she created (see the previous page in this thread), and Matthies is right wrt anonymity.

That said, after having reviewed the evidence, I have to say the following:  It seems that ISUCKATTHIS, as abrasive as he is, has a point.  Miss P's posting a plea for help is pretty damning.  It seems she really did call in the troops to her aid.  That's really, really weak Miss P.  If you can't hold your own in an argument you have no business posting anything on the internet, let alone joining the legal profession.  It's pretty clear that you won't take even a modicum of responsibility for what you've done here and that you are not being the least bit reasonable.  It also seems like you have an unhealthy obsession with "saving face" on the internet.  Nobody knows who you are here.  More importantly, unreasonable obstinacy doesn't save any face.

I didn't post a plea for help.  There's no "evidence" that I did, because I didn't.  Procrastinating during finals, I vented in a thread where I post every day that I am here about how stupid and aggravating I thought another thread was.  This may be evidence of my being compulsive, a bad student, or sadly attached to my computer, but really, that's it.

I don't know where you get the impression that it is routine for me or others to complain about other posters, and posters who "hurt" them in particular.  I have only once complained about a poster for something related to me personally, and he had started a thread to say something libelous about me (and I just wanted the thread deleted). As far as I can remember, any other report I've ever made to a moderator has been about inappropriate posts that had nothing to do with me personally, such as posts that reveal personal information about other posters, spam, and extreme vulgarity.

You may be more interested in an xoxo-style forum where anything goes (though obviously the lack of moderation there exposes its owners and moderators to tort liability, however silly that seems to you).  I am interested in a forum like this one -- one that has certain standards of decency and an organized message board while retaining diversity of opinion and experience.  This forum relies on posters to report violations of certain baseline community standards to the moderators because they cannot be expected to monitor the whole board (especially since one is a full-time law student and the other is a full-time biglaw associate).  Thus, I think it is my responsibility to report violations when I see them, and I do so on occasion.

I totally agree with this.  I do think people should try to be nice, or at least decent, to each other, and I expect and hope people will be nice to me, regardless of whether they know my real name or I know theirs.  Still, I think the issues in this thread have gotten muddled.  I don't believe anyone has suggested that posts should be moderated due to reputational damage or hurt feelings.  I certainly haven't.  I think the appropriate response, if any, to posts like those from ISUCKATTHIS, Jake_MONDATTA, and PILOFOLO is to respond in the thread or by personal message, and that's what I have done.

Sorry for not knowing there are a few dinks who think knowing their true identities would be helpful to people.  Now, I can kind of understand why people might want to know a board moderator's identity... but what about the rest of you people?  Who are you that you're so important, anyway?  I hope you're all, at least, Cravath partners.  If you're anything less than you've got really over-inflated egos.  What in God's name is knowing your true identities supposed to provide people, anyway?  Do you think there is a shortage of lawyers or law students in this country?  Everybody who posts here is either a law student or a lawyer.  If they wanted to get information from attorneys they actually know, don't you think they could find those people in real life?  The whole purpose of a discussion board is to get anonymous information so there are no consequences for asking goofy questions and so people can feel free to say what they really think.  What are you people thinking?  What are you providing?  Who are you and why are you here?

Also, if the three posters here are not using anonymity as an excuse to behave like an asshat... then what are their excuses?  Because these are the biggest asshats I've ever seen in my life.  It's like a reality TV show in discussion board format.

There's a post where I made a joke about having been told I have a "cybermob mentality" and another where I said that the thread made me want to gouge my eyes out with a fountain pen.  They're both over-the-top, exam-time complaints about an annoying thread.  They're not pleas for help.  Do better.

I don't think I am inordinately concerned about my reputation, but I also don't know why you care about how I waste my brainspace because it doesn't affect you.  I have never suggested that saying unkind or false things about other people should be policed by the moderators here, and my neuroses aren't really a matter of public concern.  If you think this is all a huge waste of time, I have a simple solution for you: don't jump into the argument. That's why I started another thread for this seemingly endless discussion about what a crazy female dog I am, so that people who wanted to talk about the ban policy could do so here without having to read about whether I said X or Y two months ago or got PILOFOLO banned or whatever.  You're right: I'm not that interesting.

I'm jumping into the argument because it *is* interesting and it *is* entertaining in the same way Real Housewives of New Jersey is interesting and entertaining.  I thought I made that clear.  The "thank you, thank you, thank you!  This thread is a precious, hilarious jewel." was not meant to be subtle.  This thread is a hell of a lot more entertaining than "Do you think biglaw is over?" or "Which tier 2 school should I transfer to?"  Finally, LSD has gotten interesting again.

And your long-winded posting doesn't cut any mustard with me.  I read the posts and I actually went back and looked at the other thread.  Give it up.

And what did you find?  Really, all 21K or so of my posts are there, and you have access to them both by thread and through my profile, in chronological order.  Please, just show us where I asked for help or encouraged people to gang up on ISUCKATTHIS or discussed using the report-to-moderator function to protect my reputation or whatever.
