Not registered with a party... politics are libertarian except on foreign policy, where I believe we have responsibilities to the world's citizens.

Texas does not require you to be registered with a party to vote in the primaries, you just can't vote in both primaries in the same year. I don't know if other states are that same way.

some states--probably most--have open primaries. but all require registration, even if only as independent.

You are required to register to vote in TX, but you do not specify any sort of party at all.
