Looks like MC law will be my best option.  I am going to place my seat deposit today.  I have about 10 apps still out, but I cannot take the chance.  I am fine with losing my deposit if any of the others hit.  Anyone around with advice on Jackson MS or school.

MC could be a bad idea unless you have a job lined up for you after LS...t4's have pretty bad employment prospects these days.

This is why I'm starting to dislike this site more and more.  Why would anyone say anything like that?  This guy obviously wants to become a lawyer and has been accepted by a good ABA Accredited institution that will train him to become an attorney.  Then good ole' kennedyposter decides to plant some discouragement under the guise of advice. 

And who is kennedyposter? Is he an HR specialist for a law firm in Mississippi?  Is he a trained career counselor with a record of getting people's lives on track?  Unlikely…he's probably an inexperienced fellow in his early to mid-20s that thinks he's got it all figured out.

If this site does any good, it does just as much harm.

First, congrats on the acceptance! I don't know much about the school or the city. I rode though the city last summer and thought it looked quite nice.

as for the other comments, here's my observation for what its worth. I'm a 2L and have friends at law schools from most tiers, so have a general idea of the legal market, particularly for big law stuff.

Shocking as it may be, random comments on this site don't likely have much impact on the legal market. The current market sucks, thousands of big law associates and more than a few partners were laid off just in the last few months. The top 10 schools are cranking out new lawyers at quite a rapid pace and it is useful to realistically consider your career prospects. Hundreds if not thousands of would-be new associates are deferred - this means that the students that would have been hired later probably won't be - there will be a ripple effect that will extend several years even if the economy fixes itself quickly.

This doesn't mean don't got to your school, it just means go in with your eyes open. Don't count on a 160k big law job. Look at where people from your target school are going, if you are happy with what you see go, have fun and do great things! What you want to avoid is sinking thousands of dollars and 3 years of your life into something only to find out it won't get you where you want to be. This may sound harsh, but if news reports on the subject are to be believed, there are a great many students sinking a lot of time and money into LS with highly unrealistic expectations - don't let that be you. Also, just because some lower ranked schools don't place well with big law, doesn't mean you can't be a wildly successful lawyer coming from such a school. Some of the best trial lawyers of all time have come from modestly ranked law schools. There are also non-career reasons for going to law school. Some people just enjoy the study of law and want to learn and of course there's nothing at all wrong with that. Some career options do not require name brand degrees and that's great too, just explore the options so you don't get taken in by what is often overly optimistic law school advertising.

Don't do it. Ole Miss will forever be the only relevant law school in Mississippi, and you'll be made painfully aware of that fact time and again.

MC Law is a fine law school. The faculty and staff is very good and have an open door policy. The law school is located in Downtown Jackson and not on the undergrad campus. It has that close-knit small school feel. There is alot of interaction with the judges, lawyers, and firms in the local area. You often see a MS Supreme Court Judge walking down the hall.

There is no dorms for the law school. However, there is an apartment complex located directly across the road - but it is (how can I say this nicely) not so hot - but cheap and close.

Parking is available in a private lot at the law school. There is no cafeteria, but there is a food court where you can get coffee, snacks, and a sub or salad on campus. Also, there a couple off campus places to eat that are in walking distance.

The library is 3 stories and there is lots of room to study. You have wi-fi all over, and wireless printing also. There are tons of student organizations available.
