Waitlisted at Iowa
« on: March 15, 2009, 08:20:51 PM »
So I'm waitlisted at Iowa. In the e-mail I recieved, it says "Approximately 50% of all applications for admission are placed in the hold decision category." Do they actually reread more than half of their applications more than once? I find it surprising how schools are so hesitant to either just accept or
reject students. It just seems like awefully lot of work to do.  :(

Hold is usually different than a waitlist...

Hold generally means that they are waiting to see the short-term response to their current mailed acceptances before making an official decision on your application.  Wait-list is a broadly ranked list of applications that will be used to fill up the class during the summer.

So, is being waitlisted better than being in hold? Can you tell me what usually happens to people who are in the hold category? Do they usually get rejected if the school gets their usual number of students deciding to attend that school? Thanks for the reply.  :)

Holds that are not accepted are normally put on the general waitlist.

Thanks for the reply. In the email I received, the school encourages students in the hold category to send additional materials that can be helpful. Do I need to send them anything or are they just saying that because things could really make a difference at this point. I mean, I already sent everything there is. I dont know what else I should send them..  ???
