graduate early?
« on: March 15, 2009, 04:12:38 PM »
I have two years' gap between high school and college, during which I traveled abroad. I am thinking about finishing my college in three years now (I am a rising sophomore) because:
1 I have enough credits due to advanced classes taken in high school
2 I am two years older than other people who are in the same class year as I am.
3 Financial reasons: save one year's college tuition

However I am afraid that this may put me in disadvantage when applying to law school.
Any ideas?  ???

I think this is something you need to decide for yourself.

Personally, I am a proponent of not wasting extra cash, so your plan sounds completely rational to me.

Also, I don't think anybody on here would tell you that law schools would care about that (at all). Law school really is a numbers thing, so if your GPA is high enough after three years, my advice is: get the degree and take that extra year to ace the LSAT.

Why would it matter for law school if you graduate early?  I can't foresee it being a disadvantage unless you wanted to pay a bunch of money to take basket weaving classes to for a year to boost your GPA. If your gpa is decent, I say spend the time on your LSAT and get out of undergrad.

I graduated early and don't regret it.  I saved tuition money and now I can finish law school sooner, too.

If nothing else, graduating in three years makes you interesting.

Go for it.  It will not negatively impact your law school chances.

I graduated in 3 years and it didn't hinder me at all, and I'm two years younger than most people graduating college. As long as your coursework isn't fluffy, I'm sure it'll be fine. And taking the LSAT while doing it is entirely doable  ;D Good luck!
