I don't refer to chicks as dudes. It just seems wrong.

It probably is.  Maybe it's just me and my crazy LA ways, but I just tend to refer to everyone that way.  Not like "I was talking to this dude, and..." (when referring to a female), but more like "DUDE!!!  You'll never guess what happened" when speaking to a female.
