I don't refer to chicks as dudes. It just seems wrong.

It probably is.  Maybe it's just me and my crazy LA ways, but I just tend to refer to everyone that way.  Not like "I was talking to this dude, and..." (when referring to a female), but more like "DUDE!!!  You'll never guess what happened" when speaking to a female.

MA, your statement offends me as a southerner because I too refer to both males and females as dudes in the same context

Next thing you know, you'll tell me "y'all" is Southern too  ::)

;)

Perhaps we're twins separated at birth and across a half a decade of the time/space continuum?

One of my supervisors calls me "bro."
That's cool how you referenced a case.

One of my supervisors calls me "bro."

Now that's just wrong.

A little weird -- even for me :)

I think I will have to revert back to the oldie, but goodie "homeslice."

Oh wow.  I totally do this.  :-[
But how do you deal with someone who rejects your broad moral principles?
I kill them.

I call the BF "brah" as a joke sometimes, but it just comes out as "bra." Complicated.
This sig kills fascists.

Saw dashrashi's LSN site. Since she seems to use profanity, one could say that HYP does not necessarily mean class or refinement.
